The Opportunity:
WSP is seeking a civil engineering technologist to support our group of professional engineers, airport planners, technologists and surveyors, to deliver engineering consulting services to our domestic and international clients. This position can be based out of one of a number of WSP offices throughout Canada, but preferably will be based out of our Edmonton or Calgary Office.
A sampling of the services provided by WSP's Aviation Group includes: project and construction management, air terminal and facilities planning, airfield master planning, airfield ground lighting, runway, taxiway and apron design, stormwater management and drainage design, de-icing facility design, and obstacle limitation surface assessment. The successful applicant will be expected to work as part of design/project management teams on various airport infrastructure projects.
The position involves completing tasks related to the planning, design, tendering and construction of airport facilities under the direction of senior project managers, airport planners and professional engineers including, but not necessarily limited to, the following:

Compensation:
Salary range (in British Columbia): $71,500 - $98,300
The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs. What you can expect to do here:
- Assist in the design of airfield infrastructure projects through the development of design drawings and technical reports;
- Assist with engineering calculations, windrose analysis, cost estimates, quantity take-offs, etc.,
- Assist in airfield facilities planning including simulation of aircraft ground maneuvering using AeroTurn/AviPlan Pro software
- Undertake research activities to identify and develop potential solutions to design challenges associated with airfield facility design/construction.
- Assist in the project management and contract administration duties for airport infrastructure projects including but not limited to the preparation of budget/schedule updates, progress payment certificates, shop drawing review, site instructions, etc.
- Field work including construction inspection and/or surveying
- Opportunity for travel within Alberta and out of Province
- During construction projects, you will assist the project manager by monitoring project progress against schedule and budget, identify and manage potential risks, oversee quality control and safety compliance, oversee materials testing activities, prepare daily inspection reports and other project documentation, provide recommendations to the project manager for project adjustments as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned/required.
What you'll bring to WSP:
- Fluent in spoken and written English
- Strong verbal and personal communication skills.
- Excellent work ethic and attention to detail
- A diploma in civil engineering technology or related discipline
- Full working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite of programs
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Possess a valid Alberta Drivers' license and vehicle
- Ability to travel to project/client sites and conduct project work remotely
The following additional qualifications will be considered assets:
- An interest in aviation and/or transportation engineering
- CET or CTech designation
- A minimum of three (3) years related work experience
- Familiarity with airport operations and/or Transport Canada Standard TP312 Aerodrome Design Standards
