Position Information

Location Various Douglas College Campuses/Satellite Campuses Salary Range
Salary Range: $30.91 to $36.22 per hour ( Targeted Hiring Range: $30.91-$33.46 per hour). Placement within salary range is based on skills, experience and education.
The Opportunity
Responsible for delivering level-appropriate, digital support workshops which instruct LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada) levels 1 to 4 adult immigrant and refugee newcomers on how to use loaned laptops and/or on how to access online LINC classes and online settlement services.

RESPONSIBILITIES :


Receiving direction from the LINC Coordinator for assigned site and working collaboratively with other Digital Support Facilitators, the LINC Digital Support Facilitator will:


    • Develop lesson plans for split level 1-2 and split level 3-4 digital support workshops. Workshops will instruct participants on how to:

      • Log into online classes. Note that participants will access their classes using a variety of devices, such as loaned laptops, personal laptops, tablets and cell phones.
      • Utilize Zoom for online classes. This will involve logging into zoom, using various zoom functions, online etiquette and providing the participants with links to their classes.
      • Utilize Avenue.ca for online classes. This will involve logging into Avenue.ca and reviewing the site to prepare students for their online classes.
      • Access online settlement services. This will require compiling a list of online settlement services for immigrant and refugee newcomers and their families.


    • Review and update lesson plan regularly to ensure it best meets the needs of attendees. All updates must be shared with the LINC Coordinators and other Digital Support Facilitators.
    • Note that Digital Support workshops do not include digital literacy. They are intended to assist students in accessing online settlement services only.
    • Deliver in-person and/or online Digital Support workshops:

      • Deliver engaging, interactive, level appropriate, in-person and/or online Digital Support workshops, which instruct participants on how to use their own devices to access Zoom, Avenue.ca and other online settlement services.
      • Provide instruction to participants with loaned devices on:

        • how to use and care for the device;
        • how to complete the Loaner Device Agreement form.

      • Ensure all participants leave workshop with their needs met or with another appointment set for them to attend a subsequent workshop.
      • Take attendance at each workshop and note what type of training was provided (i.e. how to use loaner laptop, how to access Zoom, Avenue and online Settlement services.

    • Provide support and guidance as requested to LINC Facilitators for improved online class delivery.
    • Provide feedback to program administration regarding improvement ideas and advise if there are any client or class issues.
    • Submit requested reports or documents accurately and in a timely fashion.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

WHAT IT TAKES

    • Recognized undergraduate degree (required);
    • Teaching English as a Second Language ( TESL ) qualifications which are recognized on the TESL Canada website (required);
    • Proficiency in the use of Zoom and Avenue.ca is required;
    • A minimum of 2 years' experience teaching English as a Second Language to adults;
    • Completion of the Canadian Language Benchmarks Bootcamp training;
    • Strong trouble shooting skills with laptops, tablets and cell phones;
    • Demonstrated proficiency in current technology tools and online learning platforms;
    • Ability to remain current in online settlement related resources;
    • Ability to communicate with low level English learners and use available translation tools as needed;
    • Ability to communicate fluently and accurately in both spoken and written English;
    • Ability to deal effectively and professionally with clients, staff and the general public who may come from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
Additional Information
Please note that this is a hybrid role and we are hiring for multiple part-time contract positions. Workshops are typically Mondays-Wednesdays, but dates, times and delivery method are subject to change. Online workshops may be required from time to time.
