Job Description

We are looking for a Manager, Business Engagement Services to take on a broad range of responsibilities in both the business and technology domains, and act as a bridge between strategy and execution. The Manager builds strong relationships with Senior Business Leaders, understands and helps shape the strategic objectives of the business unit and proposes and oversees creative solutions that may involve transformational business and/or technology solutions.

The Manager, BES also plays a key governance role by facilitating Executive Steering Committees, by securing funding through the business case process and by regularly monitoring project progress and expenditures. As a trusted advisor of the Executive Leadership team, the manager is able to work at all levels of the organization.

This is a temporary role for 12 months.

How you'll make a difference: You'll help teams across WorkSafeBC solve problems, leverage technology, and plan new ways to service B.C. workers and employers.

Where you'll work
At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines working remotely, and in our offices based on the operational needs of the position.

In this role, you will work primarily from our Richmond Office with some flexibility to work from your home in B.C.
  • Identify, follow up, and/or respond to clients' needs and areas of concern, taking appropriate action to quickly resolve issues and to turn business challenges into valuable solutions.
  • Act as a senior level business process and transformation professional. Be a change agent to instill a business innovation culture throughout WorkSafeBC and provide the tools and techniques to drive measurable business process improvement; develop, promote and champion the business improvement initiatives throughout the organization with effective change and communication plans.
  • Build strong relationships with Senior Divisional Leaders to provide support and advice on divisional strategies and business solutions that may involve technology. Provide regular updates to Senior Executive members through steering committees, working committees and informal meetings.
  • Manage a portfolio of initiatives, including both strategic and tactical business and technology projects, by planning, tracking and addressing key business outcomes, project milestones and interdependencies as well as risks and issues; also provide oversight of the project funding process, including the creation of business cases and monthly financial reporting; lead team to achieve portfolio objectives.
  • Work closely with business customers to solve business problems that can be large and complex in nature, guide the intake of work into the divisional portfolio, analyze key business problems, oversee approaches to ideation, recommend solutions, define project scope as well as secure appropriate resources from within Business Engagement Services and other areas of I&T and the business.
  • Consistently models the appropriate level of organizational behaviors expected of all WorkSafeBC employees: responsive, respectful, fair, collaborative, accountable, and forward thinking
We're looking for someone/people who can:
  • Create and deliver formal presentations, write reports, statements of work, business cases and other documents; facilitate workshops, guide discussions and generate consensus by articulating and summarizing clearly defined points of view.
  • Represent the Innovation & Technology Division to the rest of WorkSafeBC and understand the Systems Development Lifecycle to know how to engage the right areas of I&T at the right times; foster collaboration by bringing together skills and people that will deliver business outcomes.
  • Lead a team of varying size to ensure achievement of Departmental objectives and promote a strong team and customer orientation. Hire, orient, evaluate, mentor, discipline and terminate staff as required. Set performance goals and provide feedback, coaching and developmental planning to support and motivate staff in meeting expectations. Ensure that appropriate training and development is provided to assist managers and staff in meeting operational and performance expectations
  • Create a supportive and healthy working environment within the Department by ensuring effective communication, promoting teamwork, providing opportunities for staff involvement into planning and recognizing employees' contributions and achievements. Support staff as changes and new initiatives are implemented in the workplace.
  • Within areas of responsibility, provide direction and assign responsibilities to support and accomplish the WorkSafeBC Corporate Safety Program goals and to establish and maintain standards, policies and work practices that provide a safe working environment for employees. Ensure that staff are instructed, trained and held accountable for safe working practices.
Your background and experience
  • A university degree (master's level) in one or more related disciplines
  • A minimum of 8 years' experience, including a minimum of 5 years working on business initiatives and 3 years working on technology solutions.
We'll consider equivalent combinations of education and experience.

Salary: $127,804 - $155,281/annually
