This role is with a fast paced software development team that builds, delivers and maintains critical production software services. This role involves working with customer requirements to lead a team in the process of proposing solutions, creating prototypes, designing, developing, testing, deploying and maintaining production software services that solve defined customer problems. Our team is seeking a software engineering team lead that can work on site in the Vancouver, BC headquarters, or remotely in the Pacific Time zone, preferably in the Vancouver, British Columbia or Seattle metro regions.


Primary accountabilities will be to build, lead and support an agile software development team in designing, developing, delivering and supporting customer and internal projects.

Specifically, your daily work will including:
  • Hire, train and coach software engineers
  • Provide vision, guidance and support in developing and achieving the team's objectives
  • Lead the process of planning and prioritizing development sprints and individual contributor workloads, prioritizing learning and development opportunities and balancing productivity with the mental health and technical abilities of team members
  • Hands on development and testing of software services to fulfill unique requirements specified by customer needs
  • Refine and evolve the software development life cycle to adopt current best practices in software engineering
  • Document technical work according to defined standards and/or contribute/lead the process of defining updated standards for documentation
  • Coordinate with production and cloud operations teams to ensure release readiness, production service uptime and resolution of production issues
  • Follow standard operational procedures, including time-reporting, document management administration, etc. for the team
  • Develop and refine operational and technical requirements for proposed software services, including defining scope estimates, technical specifications for proposed solutions, and developing proof of concepts where required
  • Work closely with Technical Support, Development, Operations, and Customer Success teams to ensure customers engage successfully with our software services
What You Need:

Beyond a desire to produce and deliver high quality software solutions for customers, you will also need the following experience and skills:
  • Minimum 3 years of software engineering experience, preferably with .Net (C#). Ideal candidate may have 5 or more years of experience in software engineering and may already have some team lead experience
  • A strong desire to develop leadership skills, in particular a desire to lead, coach and mentor junior software engineers and helping plan and execute on career planning
  • Strong communication skills, especially across disciplines. The ideal candidate will have a significant amount of experience working with DevOps, Operations, Support, and Product Development teams to solve challenging problems together
  • Experience developing, deploying and maintaining applications in Windows Server, Linux (Ubuntu/Debian) and/or Docker environments
  • Experience building and integrating with REST APIs and working with JSON-generating web endpoints
  • Ability to maintain and migrate legacy .Net Framework applications to .Net Core 3.1, .Net 5, .Net 6 and future versions of the .Net platform
  • Strong desire to build fast, reliable, quality .Net applications in .Net Core 3.1, .Net 5 and future versions of the .Net platform
  • Strong desire to become an expert-level software engineer in the .Net ecosystem, including building knowledge and expertise of .Net and Entity Framework going forward into .Net 6 and beyond
  • Experience working with PostgreSQL and Entity Framework (EF Core)
  • Strong knowledge of general database design, management and performance characteristics
  • Skill and experience in general technical troubleshooting, testing and issue documentation
  • Good understanding of and experience with source control (BitBucket, GitHub, GitHub Enterprise, or other Git solution)
Nice to Have:

While not required, if you possess one or more of the following experience and skills, you've earned bonus points in our eyes and we would love to talk to you about them:
  • Significant experience in coaching and mentoring junior team members
  • Experience in hiring and training software engineers and building strong team culture and cohesion, as well as dealing with conflict resolution and de-escalating challenging team dynamics
  • Experience with building and working with diverse delivery teams, encouraging recruitment of team members from all walks of life and with diverse backgrounds and beliefs
  • Experience with and strong knowledge of Docker, its developer experience, and building/maintaining production-grade and secure Docker images
  • Experience with PowerShell and/or Bash scripting
  • Experience with CI/CD, preferably Concourse or Jenkins
  • Experience with Kubernetes, preferably with a KOPS or Rancher (RKE) cluster
  • Experience with cloud deployment and management, preferably in AWS
  • Experience configuring and deploying Docker-based services utilizing JSON and YAML configuration, following a build-once-deploy-everywhere model for configuring production application services
  • Experience developing software in the security or government space.
