Position Information

Location Various Douglas College Campuses/Satellite Campuses Salary Range
Salary Range: $30.91 to $36.22 per hour ( Targeted Hiring Range: $30.91-$33.46 per hour). Placement within salary range is based on skills, experience and education.
The Opportunity
The EDI Facilitator will develop curriculum and deliver EDI training for Newcomers to Canada, as part of the Training Group's LINC 1-4 (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada) program. They will also deliver EDI training to other Training Group programs as needed and provide Gender-Based Analysis Plus ( GBA Plus) support to the Program Management Team.

RESPONSIBILITIES :


Curriculum Design:



    • Develop in-person and online EDI related classes to improve client understanding and knowledge of their rights in Canada as well as services and resources available for 2SLGBTQIA+ people, Youth, Women, Seniors, and people with disabilities (mental and physical);
    • Develop appropriate PBLA (Portfolio Based Language Assessment) lesson plans for in-person and online instruction for LINC level 1 to 4 classes;
    • Upload EDI related LINC lessons to online platforms;
    • Utilize needs assessments and/or surveys to determine clients' needs re EDI topics to inform curriculum topics;
    • Develop feedback surveys to determine if client needs are being met;
    • Develop PBLA level 1 to 4 Assessments for EDI related classes.

Facilitation:



    • Deliver in-person and online related EDI training to LINC 1-4 classes;
    • Facilitate EDI related professional development sessions with Facilitators to teach them to facilitate EDI related classes;
    • Provide feedback surveys and monitor responses to ensure that client needs are met;
    • Provide level 1 to 4 PBLA Assessments for EDI related classes and share assessment results with Facilitators and Coordinator.
Gender-Based Analysis Plus ( GBA Plus) Support to Program Management:



    • Assist the Program Management team in applying a GBA Plus lens to departmental programming by reviewing curriculum and providing feedback from an equity perspective;
    • Provide EDI related information and consultation to departmental staff as requested.

WHAT IT TAKES

    • Recognized undergraduate degree. A degree in a related field such as Curriculum Design, Education, Social Justice, Gender Studies is an asset;
    • Teaching English as a Second Language qualifications which are recognized on the TESL Canada website;
    • Knowledge of local, provincial and national EDI related resources;
    • Demonstrated ability to develop curriculum from an equity perspective;
    • Demonstrated ability to facilitate dynamic, EDI focused workshops;
    • Strong computer skills with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and internet;
    • Strong organizational skills and solid classroom management skills;
    • Demonstrated ability in identifying and addressing client needs;
    • Proven ability to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team with capacity to take initiative and easily adapt to change;
    • Strong interpersonal and exceptional communication (verbal and written) skills; and
    • Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds; sensitivity and understanding to the needs of newcomers to Canada.
