Position Information

Location Various Douglas College Campuses/Satellite Campuses Salary Range
Salary Range: $30.91 to $36.22 per hour ( Targeted Hiring Range: $30.91-$33.46 per hour). Placement within salary range is based on skills, experience and education.
The Opportunity
The PBLA Lead ( LINC level 1 to 4) supports Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada ( LINC ) Facilitators in the training and implementation of Portfolio Based Language Assessment ( PBLA ) practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES :



    • Provide PBLA orientation and support to new and existing LINC Facilitators (level 1-4);
    • Conduct monthly PBLA orientation sessions for new students;
    • Advise administrators on needed supports such as professional development sessions or program resources;
    • Complete an annual self-assessment using the PBLA Practice Review framework and identify and complete an action plan;
    • Facilitate informal small-group discussions or learning groups to address common concerns using classroom teachers as resources for one another;
    • Deliver workshops related to PBLA implementation, such as the CCLB Professional Learning Sessions;
    • Observe classroom teachers and provide feedback and suggestions as a peer and a colleague; and
    • Provide demonstration lessons and instruction on lesson planning as needed.

WHAT IT TAKES

    • Recognized undergraduate degree (required);
    • Teaching English as a Second Language ( TESL ) qualifications which are recognized on the TESL Canada website (required);
    • 2 years' experience teaching English as a Second Language to adults (preferred);
    • Completion of the Canadian Language Benchmarks Bootcamp training;
    • Portfolio Based Language Assessment ( PBLA ) experience and/or training;
    • Proficiency using Avenue.ca (preferred);
    • Ability to remain current in CLB competencies and related resources;
    • Ability to communicate fluently and accurately in both spoken and written English;
    • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds; sensitivity and understanding to the needs of newcomers to Canada;
    • Ability to deal effectively and professionally with clients, staff and the general public who may come from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds;
    • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail; and
    • Ability to prioritize, organize and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
