Overview
At KPMG in Canada, our people bring their unique perspectives to Canada's most important challenges. Here, you can build momentum that reaches beyond our business, develop skills for the future, and take ownership of your career with support at every stage. Join a firm where your career can make a difference.

As part of our Tax practice, you will help businesses and their owners navigate important decisions from structuring and growing their businesses to completing transactions and planning for succession.

This role offers exposure to a broad range of tax planning, corporate reorganizations, and transaction tax matters. Working alongside experienced tax professionals, you will research practical solutions, model alternatives, and help bring tax strategies to life. You will also gain experience in tax compliance and reporting, building the technical foundation and business understanding to become a strong, well-rounded tax professional.

Whether you are building on existing tax experience or looking to broaden your focus, you will have opportunities to develop your skills, work directly with clients, and take on increasing responsibility with support from the team.

What you will do
  • Assist in developing and implementing tax planning strategies for private businesses and their owners, including corporate reorganizations, business succession, and ownership transitions
  • Support the tax aspects of acquisitions, sales, and other business transactions through research, analysis, modelling, and implementation
  • Research and analyze a wide variety of Canadian and cross-border tax issues, including the structuring of domestic and international investments
  • Prepare tax models to evaluate alternatives and help clients understand the implications of business and investment decisions
  • Draft technical memoranda, instruction decks to legal counsel, and client reporting letters for review by senior team members
  • Work with clients, colleagues, and other professional advisers to gather information, understand business objectives, and move projects forward
  • Prepare and review corporate, partnership, trust, and personal tax returns, including filings related to tax planning and transactions
  • Assist with the preparation and review of tax provisions for audit and non-audit clients
  • Contribute to a variety of tax projects while building your technical knowledge, professional judgment, and client relationships
What you bring to the role
  • A minimum of three years of experience in a public accounting firm
  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field
  • Successful completion of the CFE, with a CPA designation obtained or in progress
  • Current enrolment in, or willingness to enroll in, the In-Depth Tax Program
  • An interest in tax planning, corporate reorganizations, and transactions, and a desire to develop a broad tax skill set
  • Curiosity and a practical approach to researching tax issues, evaluating alternatives, and solving problems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical matters clearly
  • A collaborative approach, with a willingness to take initiative, share knowledge, and support colleagues
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • A commitment to understanding clients' businesses, providing excellent service, and building lasting relationships
