The Opportunity
Your Impact Starts Here - As a Lab/Field Technician - Summer Student in our Geotechnical and Materials Laboratory Testing team, you'll gain hands-on experience in both lab and field settings. You'll play a key role in supporting construction projects across Manitoba, working closely with clients, contractors, and WSP teams to ensure quality and safety.
Your Impact
- Perform geotechnical lab testing (e.g., Proctor, Gradation, Hydrometer, Atterberg Limits, Concrete Testing) in compliance with ASTM, AASHTO, CSA, and CCIL standards
- Conduct field QA/QC testing including nuclear density compaction, subgrade inspection, and concrete sampling
- Monitor geotechnical instrumentation and assist in field supervision of earthworks contractors
- Maintain calibration and condition of lab and field equipment, ensuring readiness and accuracy
- Collect, interpret, and enter test data to support timely and reliable reporting
- Participate in project coordination and contribute to the design of field programs
- Uphold WSP's Health and Safety Policy while working in diverse environments
- Travel to job sites across Manitoba and work extended hours as required by project schedules
The Skills That Set You Apart
- Enrolled in a Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology program, or equivalent experience
- Comfortable working outdoors in varied conditions and physically able to lift up to 25 kg
- Valid Canadian driver's license with a clean abstract
- Familiar with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and data entry practices
- Previous experience in construction materials testing (soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt) is an asset
- CCIL certifications, First Aid, WHMIS, H2S Alive, and Ground Disturbance training are considered assets
- Passionate about infrastructure and eager to contribute to real-world projects

Compensation
AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $22.00-$25.50
MB & ON: $20.50-$24.00
NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $19.50-$23.00
